POLICY 28
ICE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES SHALL NOT INTERFERE WITH THE PRODUCTION OF
HYDROELECTRIC POWER, DAMAGE SIGNIFICANT FISH AND WILDLIFE AND THEIR
HABITATS, OR INCREASE SHORELINE EROSION OR FLOODING.
Explanation of Policy
Prior to undertaking actions required for ice management, an assessment must be made of the potential
effects of such actions upon the production of hydro-electric power, fish and wildlife and their habitats as
will be identified in the Coastal Area Maps, flood levels and damage, rates of shoreline erosion damage,
and upon natural protective features.
Following such an examination, adequate methods of avoidance or mitigation of such potential effects
must be utilized if the proposed action is to be implemented.
